Huitt-Zollars is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine Mears, PE, ENV SP to Managing Principal in our Houston West office. In this role, she will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and staff of the office. Katherine joined the firm in February as a Vice President and Principal-in-Charge where she has focused on leading and growing our public works practice in Southeast Texas.
Katherine earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and is a licensed engineer in Texas with an Envision Sustainability Professional Certification (ENV SP) from the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure. She has over 25 years of project experience in water, wastewater, drainage, roadways, sidewalks, bikeways, traffic signals, and environmental documentation with clients ranging from municipalities, counties, and state agencies to utility districts. Additionally, she has provided staff augmentation “City Engineer” services to several municipalities in the Houston area. This experience coupled with her passion for the AEC industry and local community will positively contribute to the growth of the Houston West office and the firm.
Katherine is very active locally in the community and currently serves on the ACEC-Houston Board of Directors and Programs Chair for the Southeast Branch of APWA. She is also Houston Mayor Turner’s appointee to the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District Board of Directors and the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Houston Employee Relief Organization (HERO) as an appointee by the Houston Mayor.
