Fort Bliss Main Cantonment Master Drainage Plan

Huitt-Zollars prepared a drainage master plan for the Fort Bliss Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in conjunction with US Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District (USACE). A significant portion of the existing drainage infrastructure is subjected to periodic stormwater inundation during intense rainfall events.

A vital component of the study was building a 2D hydrodynamic model of the Fort Bliss Main Cantonment storm drainage system. This complex stormwater model included analysis of 36 miles of storm drains, ditches, open channels, culverts, pump stations, and 41 detention ponds and retention ponds.

Recommended system improvements were developed based on the deeper insight gained from the wealth of information provided by the model simulations. An opinion of probable cost for all the recommended drainage system improvements has been estimated at $3.3M.
