Huitt-Zollars designed 4,500 linear feet of 72-inch waterline, along 12th Street, as part of the Accelerated Surface Water Transmission Program. The project limits extended west of IH 610 East to Seamist Drive. Scope of the work included survey, geotechnical and environmental investigations, preliminary and final design, the preparation of storm water pollution prevention plan, traffic control plans and construction phase engineering services. Huitt-Zollars designed three separate tunnels for the project: beneath Highway 610, the Union Pacific Railroad and a private railroad spur. Huitt-Zollars’ design included the crossing of an active fault, and incorporated a protective steel casing capable of withstanding fault movement for the life of the waterline.
