Sound Transit OMFE Design-Build Procurement Documents

Huitt-Zollars conducted the corridor/system analysis, site selection, environmental analysis (NEPA/SEPA), conceptual engineering, and Design/Build Procurement Bid Documents for a second Link Light Rail operation and maintenance satellite facility. Huitt-Zollars worked with operations and maintenance staff to program and design a facility that efficiently stores, operates, washes, dispatches, and maintains 96 light rail vehicles, approximately half of Sound Transit’s fleet. The additional fleet is required to operate the north, south, and east link extensions and allow the $18 billion, 53‑mile Sound Transit light rail program to function. At the Sound Transit Board direction, Huitt-Zollars participated in multi-agency/multi-stakeholder meetings to further refine the design, include advanced urban design elements, and accommodate future located development. The total fleet requirement for ST2 is approximately 180 vehicles and the existing Forest Street OMF has a maximum capacity of 104 vehicles.
