Fort Bliss Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) Airfield Design

Huitt-Zollars performed all site planning and design for the Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) complex at Fort Bliss. The project includes over 250 acres of development for aprons, helicopter landing pads, hangars, and maintenance and support facilities. Design includes site planning, grading, drainage, pavement design, airfield lighting, apron lighting, and construction sequencing. The new airfield construction included salvage and re-use of failed-condition asphalt pavement, a new 378,700-SY apron, connecting taxiways, and complete site infrastructure. The new apron construction was phased and sequenced to allow continuing airfield operations for the 210th Aviation Regiment, the 204th Military Intelligence Battalion, as well as the Biggs Army Airfield Fire Station and the Airfield Operations Headquarters.
