Elkins and Azalea Lake Dam Improvements

Huitt-Zollars designed improvements to the Elkins Lake Dam for the Elkins Lake Recreation Corporation. The earthen dam is more than 800 feet in length, 10 feet wide crest and 27 feet high with two spillways: an earthen service spillway and a reinforced concrete emergency spillway. The dam was enlarged to handle the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). The scope of work included surveying, geotechnical investigations, earthwork, flowable fill, evaluation of PMF elevation, concrete channel lining repair, and submittal and coordination with the Dam Safety Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for permit approval.
