Leeland Avenue: Water Quality Laboratory

Huitt-Zollars was selected by the City of Houston to provide the City’s Drinking Water Operations with multiple building improvements at various facilities. This included a facilities needs assessment, space planning, programming, design, and managing the flow of work during the complete project, i.e., from conception to completion, for the City of Houston’s Drinking Water Operations. Originally, the new water laboratory was intended to be a stand-alone building at one of the City’s purification plants; however, due to budgetary restrictions, the City found a new location for the laboratory at 4200 Leeland Annex – an existing facility, already owned by the City that was once used as office and storage space. This would ultimately reduce the expenses and time originally planned for this project. Huitt-Zollars was contracted by the City to provide building improvements to 4200 Leeland Annex and convert it into a new laboratory. This new laboratory would consolidate the City’s drinking water operations from three laboratories, located at different water purification plants, to a single facility.
