Huitt-Zollars served as Lead Designer for this $74 million project to upgrade an existing non-controlled access facility to interstate standards and is now designated as IH 69. The eight mile project included adding a four-lane freeway and improving the existing US 77 to serve as continuous frontage roads. It also included adding 14 new bridges, widening existing bridges over existing outfall channels, and construction of over 9,900 LF of retaining walls. The project involved extensive construction through the City of Bishop that required ample coordination with the City, Bishop ISD, and the numerous businesses along the corridor to ensure minimal impact. In addition, a new interchange was added to accommodate access to the historic King Ranch. Numerous utility conflicts were avoided by modifying the roadway design to eliminate costs and potential delays to the project.
